The Leadership Challenge: How to Keep Getting Extraordinary Things Done in Organisations
by James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner

Kouzes and Posner's five practices of exemplary leadership is my favourite leadership model. It is practical, pragmatic and clear. It is also backed up by case studies and credible research.
The Leadership Challenge Planner
by James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner

This is the response to cries for more follow up materials to enable the practical application of the five practices tenets. It is a great tool for preparing implementing and evaluating your projects.

The Emotionally Intelligent Manager:
How to Develop and Use the Four Key Emotional Skills of Leadership
by David R Caruso and Peter Salovey

First-hand, practical advice from Peter Salovey who has revolutionized academic thought in his field. This book is a practical, application-oriented guide. With co-author David R. Caruso, Salovey shows you how to take the idea of emotional intelligence and use it to create emotionally intelligent managers.

Executive EQ: Emotional Intelligence in Business
by Robert K Cooper and Ayman Sawaf

This is an important and useful book on EQ. It gives heart to the subject and shows how to apply techniques to support business effectiveness.
The New Leaders
by Daniel Goleman

Although Daniel Goleman is largely responsible for bringing the concept of EI into popular awareness I wouldn’t recommend his earlier books if you are looking for something practical and readable. This, his latest book, is the best one by far. It still contains robust scientific research that demonstrates the difference that high EI can make to leadership and organisational success but in a more easily digestible way. However, many readers would still be looking for more practical “how to” tips.
